Soft Signage

The same principles apply for supplying soft signage artwork as our other production methods with a few additional considerations.

  1. Images

Photos and Illustration resolution should be 300dpi, however for some larger signage 150dpi is appropriate for reducing the file size. Here is a guide to use for deciding your resolution dependent on the required viewing distance.

    Viewing Distance Minimum Resolution
    0.6m 300 dpi
    1m 180 dpi
    1.5m 120 dpi
    2m 90 dpi
    3m 60 dpi
    5m 35 dpi
    10m 18 dpi
    15m 12 dpi
    50m 4 dpi
  2. Colour

All colours are converted to CMYK (no PMS colours, RGB, LAB etc).

  3. Fonts

Fonts should be embedded or outlined.

  4. Bleed

Crop & bleed marks included. 5mm bleed for single sided print and 10mm bleed for 2 sided print.

  5. Size

Trim size of your document matches the order specifications. Occasionally a file can be supplied at a smaller scale, but this must be ordered using the "Resize - Supplied Scale" option in the Additional Options in Hublink.

  6. Dielines

Any dielines are overlaid onto the artwork as a spot colour and set to overprint as per our supplied templates.

  7. Page count

Page count matches the order specifications and is combined into 1 PDF file per kind of artwork. ie. 2 sided posters = 2 page PDF

  9. Eyelets

  10. Designing for Fabric Printing

Some soft signage fabrics are designed with airflow or textured weaves to improve outdoor performance. These materials can slightly reduce the sharpness of very small text or fine details.

Examples as pictured - the smallest fonts used are 12pt Helvetica Medium:

    • 110gsm Lightweight Flag Fabric
    • 106gsm Flag Mesh
    • Other breathable or textured fabrics used for outdoor signage

Because these materials allow light and air to pass through the fabric, very small text or intricate detail may appear softer than on rigid substrates or smooth banner materials.

    Recommended Artwork Guidelines

To ensure clear readability on fabric products we recommend:

    • Minimum text size: 18pt for small body text
    • Recommended text size: 24pt or larger where possible
    • Use bold or medium weight fonts rather than thin/light styles
    • Avoid very fine lines or intricate detail
    • Allow strong colour contrast between text and background

    Viewing Distance

Most soft signage products are designed for mid-range viewing distances, such as:

    • Retail environments
    • Events and exhibitions
    • Outdoor promotional displays

For best results, design artwork with clear typography and strong visual hierarchy rather than small detailed information. (also see 01. Images section)

    Fabric Transparency

Some lightweight fabrics allow light to pass through the material. This means:

    • Graphics may appear slightly lighter in bright backlit conditions
    • Reverse images may be faintly visible on the back of single-sided flags

If you require complete opacity or double-sided graphics, products printed on Silverback fabric are recommended.
